ZEEKR’s first 001 VEs roll off the assembly line ahead of deliveries this weekend

Infant luxury electric vehicle brand ZEEKR has officially started rolling the first production models of its flagship 001 sedan off its assembly line in China. The brand exists under the umbrella of the Geely Holding group and will now begin the first deliveries of its first luxury electric vehicle to customers in China this weekend.

ZEEKR is a new luxury electric vehicle automotive brand originally announced last March by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd., better known as Geely.

Last fall, the Chinese auto conglomerate unveiled its Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, an open source EV chassis base. All electric vehicles from multiple brands inside and outside the Geely Umbrella, including Lynk & Co and Geometry, will be based on this chassis base.

ZEEKR joined Geely’s brand list earlier this year as a premium electric vehicle brand looking to compete with Tesla in China.

Then, a few months later, in July, Geely withdrew as the majority shareholder of ZEEKR, opening the door to outside investment. This was strategic because Geely withdrew a proposed listing on the Chinese STAR market that would bring in $ 3 billion for new models, some of which would have gone to ZEEKR.

Even if Geely no longer appears in shareholders’ meetings, the auto giant still owns ZEEKR through its other subsidiaries. ZEEKR’s current outside investors include Intel Capital and CATL.

With this latest news, the new automaker has achieved its goal of delivering its flagship electric vehicle, the ZEEKR 001, this year, starting with deliveries this week.

The first ZEEKR 001 EV rolls off the assembly line in China

In a press release following a ceremony in Ningbo, China, ZEEKR announced that it has officially started taking the first mass production versions of the ZEEKR 001 EV off the assembly line. These shiny new models will begin shipping to customers on October 23.

The ceremony took place at the ZEEKR smart factory, which has a 5G network, more than 300 automated welding robots and other production processes allowing continuous self-optimization.

According to the company, the ZEEKR 001 EV can generate 400 kW of power with a maximum torque of 768 Nm (566 ft-lb) from a dual motor system. This powertrain can send the 001 from 0 to 100 km / h (0 to 62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds and stop from 100 to 0 km / h in 34.5 meters.

The company also said it is working on its first live updates to further improve its ZEEKR (ZAD) assisted driving system after the first deliveries. The ZEEKR 001 is available in three variants priced from 281,000 to 360,000 RMB ($ 44,000 to $ 56,500).

For the future, the company has planned 10 “ZEEKR spaces” in China which will join the two already open in Hangzhou and Tianjin. ZEEKR plans to open two “experience centers” in Hangzhou and Shanghai before the end of the year.

Finally, ZEEKR announces the opening of ultra-fast 360 kW charging stations in 10 Chinese cities by the end of the year.
