Sony Xperia 1 IV could be announced as soon as the company confirms the Xperia launch event on May 11

The Sony Xperia 1 IV has appeared in numerous leaks over the past few months, and it could launch soon. The company announced on Twitter that it will be hosting its next product announcement in the coming weeks.

An official invitation poster for an Xperia “new product announcement” was posted on the brand’s official Twitter page on Wednesday. The company announces that “big news is coming” and the event will be broadcast on the Sony Xperia channel on YouTube on Wednesday, May 11 at 4:00 p.m. Japan time / 9:00 a.m. CEST / 12:00 p.m. PDT.

The announcement made no mention of a specific device. But given the number of detail-focused leaks of the Xperia 1 IV, it’s safe to assume that this is the new product Sony will announce next month.

Fans of the brand saw leaked renders of the Xperia 1 IV back in February, thanks to reliable leaker OnLeaks (via Giznext). It didn’t show much difference from its Mark III counterpart, and the next smartphone would still have a flat screen and flat edges. Its three rear-facing cameras still appear to be placed in an elongated pill-shaped camera bump, and Sony should still use the top bezel to hide the selfie camera instead of using a display notch or punch-hole cutout. .

Sony is rumored to keep the fingerprint scanner in a side component, and the Xperia 1 IV shouldn’t lose its dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack. The same leak suggests that the device will still sport a 6.5-inch display, but with slight changes in the dimensions from its predecessor’s 165 x 71 x 8.2mm to 164.7 x 70.8 x 8.3. mm.

Last year, the Xperia 1 III came with a 12MP triple camera on the back. But previous Weibo leaks (via Notebookcheck) claimed that the Xperia 1 IV should get a significant upgrade in this area by moving to three 48MP lenses for its primary/wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto sensors. The smartphone is also rumored to come with 256GB and 512GB storage options with a starting price of 8,999 yuan (~$1,365) for the Chinese market. But with the imminent announcement of the Xperia 1 IV, it might be better to wait for official details from Sony.
