Samsung’s radical new Galaxy smartphone suddenly takes shape
Samsung is leading the way into the next era for smartphones, and now new details have been leaked for its most ambitious Galaxy smartphone yet.
Thanks to the dedicated detectives of GalaxyClubwe now know the battery capacity of the class-leading Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 (potentially ‘Galaxy Fold 4’) and it tells us something very interesting about how this line of foldable smartphones will push the boundaries a once again.
GalaxyClub discovered that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have a total battery capacity of 4270 mAh after tracking certificates Samsung had deposited them in his native South Korea. Like previous Galaxy Fold models, this capacity is made up of two batteries – in this case one of 2002 mAh and the other of 2268 mAh – and it’s practically identical to the total capacity of 4275 mAh of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 current. But here’s the clever bit:
Multiple leaks have revealed that Samsung plans to make the Galaxy Z Fold 4 significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessors (as well as change aspect ratio), so installing virtually identical batteries inside is very impressive. For comparison, when Samsung downsized the Galaxy S21’s 6.2-inch screen to 6.1-inch for the Galaxy S22, the battery capacity dropped by 10%.
And that’s only the beginning. GalaxyClub reports that Samsung also figured out how to squeeze the Galaxy S22 cameras into the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Previously, cameras were always a weak point for this lineup.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 4 (possibly minus the “Z” branding, for sensible reasons) alongside the Galaxy [Z] Flip 4 in August. Samsung is already the uncontrollable leader of the booming “foldable” sector. Until Apple enters this space (and it’s years away), expect its dominance to grow thanks to smartphones like this.
