QI Group’s Vijay and Umayal Eswaran Recognized in 2021 Indiaspora Philanthropy Leaders List
PETALING JAYA: Prominent Malaysian entrepreneur Datuk Sri Vijay Eswaran and his wife, Datin Sri Umayal Eswaran, were recognized in the 2021 Indiaspora Philanthropy Leaders List which highlights 100 global Indian Diaspora leaders for their contribution to improvement of the world.
The entrepreneur who divides his time between his company headquarters in Hong Kong and his native Malaysia is the founder and executive chairman of the QI Group, which is headquartered in Petaling Jaya.
His wife Umayal Eswaran is the president of the RYTHM Foundation which serves as the social impact initiative of the QI group. Vijay and Umayal joined other well-known and prominent business leaders from India and around the world to be recognized for their philanthropic contributions aimed at making a positive social impact.
A nine-member jury made up of prominent figures from different industries voted on the selection for the list.
A follower of values-based leadership, Vijay has ensured that QI Group, a multinational conglomerate, adheres to sustainable business practices, which positively impact the communities in which it operates.
He committed 10% of the Group’s income to the benefit of the RYTHM Foundation. It has also implemented a company-wide plant-based meal policy, as well as a ban on single-use plastic in all Group offices.
Since turning the QI group into a thriving conglomerate, he is now focusing on his landmark project, Quest International University (QIU) in Malaysia, which he aims to turn into an Eastern Ivy League institution. .
Umayal spearheads the RYTHM Foundation’s global projects that focus on contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on gender equality, quality education and sustainable community development. The Foundation has also funded and supported Covid relief projects in more than 30 countries around the world since the start of the pandemic.
Under the aegis of the Foundation, Umayal realized his dream of helping children with special needs through the establishment of Taarana, a school for children facing issues of delayed development of academic, social and adaptive skills. Taarana is the first of its kind in Malaysia and Umayal is a strong advocate in raising awareness of the cause through workshops and fundraising.
The Foundation also recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of its flagship Maharani program in Malaysia which works with at-risk adolescent girls from low-income and vulnerable communities to support and guide them through their formative years and provide them with access to professional training, academic coaching, and personal development opportunities to enable them to realize their potential.
